Janina Harding Talks UP Cairns Indigenous Art Fair

Its that time of the year again, when indigenous artists from across Queensland and people from all over the world converge on Cairns for the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair. CIAF is celebrating its 10 year and has become a must go to event on the yearly calendar as Cairns becomes the capital of the indigenous art scene in the country.

Greg Reid on Black Star morning focus program spoke with Janina Harding Artistic Director of CIA,F for a quick yarn today about the art fair and also the exciting new coming together symposium of choirs event at the Cairns Performing Arts Center.

Choirs from Wujul Wujul, Hopevale, Yarrabah and the Torres Strait islands will be performing traditional songs in traditional languages.

CIAF  is a festival celebrating Indigenous arts and culture. It is a collection of traditional art works, produced by Queensland Indigenous artists.  To compliment the exhibition, CIAF hosts a weekend art market, where smaller artworks, craft and locally produced merchandise are sold through individual stalls, providing economic opportunity for participating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and art centres.
