Excerpt from QRAM Strategic Plan 2014/17 to 2017/20

QRAM key priorities for the forward triennium include (but are not limited to):

  • Expansion of radio services throughout the QRAM service area (Cape York, Gulf Country and West of Rockhampton).
  • Establishment of a new programming service to cater specifically for the needs of communities within QRAMA service area.  Possible inclusions to this are Regional News Service, and networked programs that originate from within the QRAM area.
  • Development of a regional identity and marketing strategy so that Government agencies and local communities can be directly united in the delivery of informational and sponsorship messages about regional and State-wide services; including reconciliation, improving the well-being of Indigenous people, and a specific focus on assisting the Australian Government realise its objective to Close the Gap.
  • For QRAM to continue its established relationship with the Tropical North Queensland Institute of Technology (TNQIT) and other media industries in order to maintain the development and delivery of high quality and up-to-date training to RIBS.
  • Development of additional digital integration technologies to further link local services through QRAM new digital approach and non-dependence for the QRAMAC regional members.
  • Continued upholding of the principles of good governance and transparency.
  • Securing government funding on a triennial basis.

Our Vision

 QRAM is valued by remote and very remote Indigenous communities of Queensland and nationally, and by appropriate regulatory authorities at all tiers of government, as the leading organisation in the delivery of targeted media and learning services for those communities.

Our Mission

To work closely with our Indigenous communities and continually excel in the provision, coordination, maintenance and continual improvement of media and learning services to serve their needs.

Our Key Priorities & Deliverables for 2014/17 to 2017 to 2020

KP1     Expansion of radio services throughout the QRAM service area (Cape York, Gulf Country and West of Rockhampton).

KP2     Establishment of a new programming service to cater specifically for the needs of communities within QRAM service area.  Possible inclusions to this are Regional News Service, and Networked programs that originate from within the QRAM area.

KP3     Development of a regional identity and marketing strategy so that Government agencies and local communities can be directly united in the delivery of informational and sponsorship messages about regional and State-wide services.  This will ensure a direct line of communication between agencies and the local broadcasters for the first time, effectively removing go-between points.

KP4     Ongoing development of training services for regional broadcasters within the QRAM region in conjunction with tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE and other sector broadcasters operating in the Cairns / FNQ area.

KP5     Continued regional consultation through local Community Representatives regarding the development and maintenance of a regional media identity for the Cape.  This will ensure that QRAM continues to develop its new programming approach to the satisfaction and needs of local communities and their distinctive needs for radio within their local communities.

KP6     Continued maintenance and development of radio broadcasting services, content & equipment at the highest standard.

KP7     Development of additional digital integration technologies to further link local services through QRAM  new digital approach and non-dependence for the QRAM regional members.

KP8     Continued corporate & administrative assistance and representation to Government and other Broadcasting Industry representatives for the QRAM regional members; including a prominent focus of engaging and consulting with Government on how QRAM can enhance its contribution to ‘Close the Gap’, reconciliation and overall promotion of Indigenous people’s well-being.

KP9     Continued operation as a showcase organisation operating with integrity and upholding the principles of good governance and transparency.

KP10   Secure government funding on a triennial basis.

Our Goals

Goal 1:   For QRAM, through its RIBS Network, to maintain and further develop the highest standard of coordinated broadcasting for Indigenous people within the remote areas of Queensland.

Goal 2:   To be perceived by governments, councils and RIBS communities as a professional & Indigenous-focused organisation which provides a high-quality broadcasting service for the Indigenous communities of remote areas of Queensland.

Goal 3:   To contribute positively to the wider Australian community’s knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, tradition and challenges.

Goal 4:   To be an efficient, adaptive and professional organisation, with sound management and governance.
