Gulf & Cape Leaders spoke with Black Star Radio on the re-opening of the Islands Airport. The airport was closed on 17 December 2015 and re-opened last week Friday with weight restrictions in place.
Mornington Island CEO Frank Mills said “There is no guarantee how long this restriction will be in place and daily inspections will be undertaken to ensure the safety of passengers using the runway until a remediation plan is developed and other works carried out as soon as possible.
Meanwhile State Member for Mt Isa Rob Katter along with Member for Cook Billy Gordon have echoed the voices from the Island saying that the proposed schedule that has been distributed is seen as completely unacceptable for Mornington Island due to transport needs and the “backlog” of people wanting to travel to and from the Island.
