Light up the airwaves

Queensland Remote Aboriginal Media continues its strong commitment to training and developing skills for our operators and anyone who want’s to get into the broadcasting and broader media industry. QRAM’s training partner is TAFE North formally Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE based in Cairns, together we offer industry standard training leading to nationally recognised qualifications.

The Certificate III in Media (Radio) is designed for people interested in pursuing a career in radio, specifically announcing. The course will provide participants with basic announcing skills plus experience at presenting radio shows. They will work in the classroom and in a commercial studio. Participants will receive work experience in a live studio and a recording of their work to take away with them for future job prospects.

QRAM’s facilities in Cairns include an interactive learning room, 20 computers with industry standard audio software, and 2 studios.  All equipment and programs are identical to those installed in each of our 11 radio stations.

Our training is hands on and interactive, with a focus on the skills needed for the modern era of broadcasting.  Our training also teaches broadcasters how to make the most of the enhancements and support provided through the Black Star network, which frees them to spend more time broadcasting local information and news and less time on repeat admin tasks.
